A military robot refers to a machine which has been created to replace human soldiers. These machines do not need to be fed, sleep, or hide from the elements. They are also free from emotions, passions, and feelings. This allows them to minimize the unprofessional behavior soldiers are known for. Aside from that, they are not subject to the same strains, fatigue, stress and fatigue as human soldiers.
AVATAR III
The AVATAR III military robotic is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that can be customized in a multitude of ways. The robot's payload bay is plug and play, so users can customize it to suit their specific needs. The robot is fully configurable and can detect, target and destroy moving forces. The AVATAR III also has the same tactical capabilities and features as its larger brother, the AVATAR IIITactical Robot. It also features dual IR and LED lights and a rugged drop-resistant chassis.
The AVATAR III's capabilities go well beyond the battlefield. It can help law enforcement and first responders better assess and respond to dangerous situations. It's rugged and easily customizable. It has two-way audio and can operate on multiple wireless channels simultaneously. It can navigate through a wide range of terrain and environments making it an ideal choice for law enforcement or combat missions.
REDOWL
iRobot is currently developing REDOWL, a military robot. It is based on neural-network circuitry which mimics the behavior of nerve cells. However, unlike other robots it does not have a programming language. It must learn by trial-and-error. It can detect gunshots and predict the sound's direction. Then it is given the difference between the guesses made and the actual location and then goes through another trial. It learns by doing this and gradually develops a 'neural' connection with the sound source.
The REDOWL military robotic has an array of acoustic, optics and other systems to locate the source of gunfire. It is also attached to a packbot which is a mini robot tank. The modified Xbox controller allows the robot to be controlled. It is capable of entering hazardous buildings and can spot gunfire within milliseconds. It has two wide-angle cameras as well as a thermal imaging camera that can identify targets. It is ideal for urban surveillance, hostage/barcade situations and perimeter protection missions.
MUTT
The MUTT robotic military robot is versatile and can be used to assist ground forces during combat as well as for remote operations. The robot's advanced technology makes it a great tool to reduce the burden on ground forces. It can also be remotely controlled and operated by telecommand and can enhance combat power projection and stand-off from enemies. Its flexible design also allows it to evolve to accommodate new payloads, controllers, and increased levels of autonomy.
The MUTT military robot was developed by GDLS and is based on the Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport (SMMET) program. This program is intended push the limits of autonomous operations. It also shifts the paradigm in manned/unmanned warfare. It will be available for IBCT deployment by 2022. It is capable of autonomous resupply and direct fire and can also be modified to allow for EW missions. It is also capable of counter-drone operations.
BigDog
Boston Dynamics is currently developing a military robot named the BigDog. The robot can travel long distances and carry supplies and soldiers. BigDog's ability to run across a wide range of terrains means it can traverse enemy minefields or positions. This makes it a great way to reinforce a unit without putting them at risk. Its sturdy and reliable design makes it able to hold a variety of items.
Boston Dynamics, which is the inventor of the BigDog military robot, has been working closely with DARPA. The BigDog is a military robot that can cross many types of terrains, and provide supplies for soldiers in the field. AlphaDog is another DARPA-sponsored military robotic designed to help spearhead combat formations.
