Russia has recently been developing laser weapons. They include the Zadira and Peresvet laser weapons. Both weapons can be used to disable or blind satellite reconnaissance systems and can also cause thermal damage. Putin announced his desire to develop a laser weapon for space targeting.
Zadira laser weapon
According to Russian military, the Zadira Laser Weapon was deployed in Ukraine. It can be used to shoot down drones or other aerial targets. The range of the system is 1500 km. It is a very cost-effective alternative to expensive missiles and is also capable of blinding satellites. This weapon can also be used in enemy reconnaissance operations.
Although lasers offer effective defense against airborne targets, there are some limitations. First, lasers take time to heat-up and focus. They can only target one target at time while missile defense systems are capable of engaging multiple targets simultaneously. A laser can be also destroyed by bad weather. A laser can also be blocked by weather conditions like rain, snow, or cloud cover.

Although Russia denied using laser weapons in Ukraine, there is evidence to suggest that it has deployed a new generation of weapons in the country's borderlands. The Russian deputy prime minister, Yury Borisov, has said that the country is using the Zadira to shoot down Ukrainian drones. The system could also be used to launch intercontinental ballistic missile systems, he claims. Peresvet is another type of laser weapon found in Russia's arsenal. It is widely used. Although it doesn't kill drones it can blind satellites for up to ninety miles.
The Peresvet is a more powerful version the Zadira laser system. This new weapon is capable of blinding satellites at more than 1,000 km above Earth. Borisov stated that the new laser guns are more efficient in degrading target aircraft. Russia will be able save money on its expensive Tor and Pantsyr rockets by using these new laser weapons.
Peresvet laser weapon
The Peresvet laser weapon is a Russian laser weapon named after Alexander Peresvet. It's used for anti-satellite warfare as well as air defense. The Peresvet's range of fire is six miles. It excels at its primary mission, which is to provide air defense.
Peresvet uses a solid-state laser array to create a weapon that can either destroy or warn targets. It is mounted on a KamAZ truck chassis that tows it. It can shoot down UAVs and cruise missiles at low altitudes.

It has been tested in Syria. The Peresvet state-tested laser complex has survived combat. The weapon is currently in use with the Russian army and is still being developed. Logan Nay wrote an article on the Peresvet Laser Weapon in 2018. He observed that, although the United States does not have a laser weapon to its credit, it is capable of creating such a system. This weapon is also being used by military bases around the globe to protect them from unmanned aerial vessels.
Russia's President Vladimir Putin announced recently that a new type of laser weapons has been developed. These weapons could be used to strike drones and orbiting satellites. The Peresvet's new laser weapon can blind satellites as far as 1,500 kilometers above the earth. Although the weapon is still classified it is clear that Russia is determined not to fall behind Western threats.
