The History of B2 Bombing

You're not alone if you're curious about the history of B2Bombing. This type of weapon was used to attack targets all over the globe during the Cold War. There were numerous incidents, including those in Kosovo, Libya, and RAF Fairford. These are some fascinating facts about the weapon.

Allied Force

Operation Allied Force featured the first use, in large numbers, of the stealth-bomber B-2 Spirit as well as the first large use of satellites for weapon direction. It also saw the US use a joint direct-attack munition kit (JDAM), which increased the gravity of conventional explosives by as much as 95%. This system was also mounted on the B-2s. Operation Allied Force saw the Joint Standoff Weapon used.

Kosovo

Human Rights Watch visited and interviewed eyewitnesses at the site of the B2 bombing on August 8. It discovered that the bridge was targeted four times, with one of them destroying it. The sanatorium did not appear to be the intended target. However two people died from the blast on the bridge, along with at least four others in the vicinity. A crater was located about 400 m away. In its White Book, the Yugoslav government gives forensic details.

Libya

After a 25-hour mission, the B-2 Spirit bombers of the US military returned safely to their base from Libya. Two pilots were on each plane, making it one of the most expensive warplanes around. They are often stored in Missouri's climate-controlled hangars. Their mission in Libya is to attack Libyan's air defenses.

RAF Fairford

Three US Air Force B2 Stealth bombers from the US have visited RAF Fairford in recent days. They flew in from Lajes Field, Portugal to visit the airbase and did bombing training runs. The B2 Bomber is a highly secretive aircraft within the US Air Force. It is part of the Bomber Task Force, which consists of military personnel from the 509th Bomb Wing and 131st Aircraft Wing.

Spirit of Oklahoma

The Spirit of Oklahoma B-2 stealth-bomber, the Spirit of Oklahoma B-2, has just left Whiteman AFB for Palmdale (Calif.). It is Block 20's last B-2, and will not be upgraded to Block 30. This milestone is significant for the program. Future attacks should be warned.

Boeing MOP weapon

The MOP is a new version of the Boeing Missile used in B2 bombing. The MOP has seven-barrel rapid fire cannons at its nosecone and is capable of pulverizing all the earth as it burrows. Its power is so great that it can cause an artificial earthquake to collapse underground facilities. The project is a collaboration between Boeing and various weapons developers. But, there are some challenges with the MOP weapon. The first is its delivery. The weapon must be delivered on a B-2 stealth fighter bomber in order to be effective.

Future configurations

The B-2 bomber can be used in the future for delivery of gravity nuclear weapons, conventional weapons and precision-guided standing off weapons. The aircraft currently has a GPS-aided munitions (interim precision-guided bomb) capability, but it is not operational. The plane is also designed to carry Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JAM) and a Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile.
