The United States' current military operations is a crucial component of its national security strategy. They are intended to preserve our nation's advantages in the global arena while we compete for great power status, as well as protect the homeland and our allies around the globe.
Conflicts and wars are often the result of strategic, political and economic decisions. They are often more complicated than a hostile firing a missile or launching a warship. They can also be the result of the United States responding to unexpected disasters or a natural catastrophe, conducting a non-combatant evacuation operation or defending our homeland against Russian aggression.
We have fought five wars that we have officially declared, as well many other forms military engagements that Congress or the United Nations Security Council Resolutions allow. Other types of military involvements include international humanitarian assistance, anti-drug, and terrorist missions, as well as peacekeeping operations.
Afghanistan, 2018
The Afghan security situation is still characterised by persistent tensions. It also faces challenging conditions and growing security risks that pose a threat to US interests and partnerships in this region of responsibility (AOR). The United States has a partnership that places significant emphasis on training, supporting, and advising the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces.
Yemen, 2018
The lives of Yemenis continue to be at risk because of the complex and contested civil war. This war, which is being fuelled by the Saudi-led coalition that supports the Government of Yemen, needs continued engagement and support from America to help Yemen's people achieve greater stability.
Pakistan, 2019
The United States is involved in a wide variety of military activities throughout the country and abroad that are directed by the President. These operations include everything from training local troops to supporting foreign countries against terrorists to fighting extremist groups. These efforts often involve the Army.
Israel, 2019
The Army provides military support for the Israeli Defense Forces and plays an important part in Israel's defense. These forces include infantry, armored, airborne, special operations and command and control units. The Army supports the U.S. Embassy, Israel and other United States missions.
Middle East, 2019,
The Middle East is still a complex and unstable region that poses a threat to the national security. The President directs the United States in many military activities in the Middle East. These operations include counterterrorism, military assistance and training, combating terrorism and supporting the Iraqi and Syrian government in their wars against terrorist groups and other rogue elements.
Strategically located, CENTCOM's AOR protects against Iran-directed stability, maintains a strong presence, and increases the United States' strategic advantage as part of Great Power Competition. CENTCOM is a trusted partner in the promotion of regional stability and peace, countering transnational threat, strengthening security cooperation and supporting US-led security allies in this region.
